First real post and we are going to go with sunburn as the topic, since I got cooked while roofing last week.
I’m not normally a sunscreen girl, so when I am out in the sun for the day I tend to burn. Someday I will learn. I am not against it; I just never remember to buy it.
First day the buddy I was working with made sure I wore sunscreen. “I need you to be able to keep working. On the last day you can burn if you want, but until then you will wear sunscreen” It was blazing hot and no clouds in sight, so I wasn’t reluctant to wear it. The rood we were doing had 3 layers of shingles and they were in such rough shape that when we scraped them off, they just fell apart. This created so much dust that it seemed to be its own sunscreen I don’t think it would be a big seller. It’s quite messy.
The second day was the same thing. I didn’t use as much sunscreen but was twice as covered by the shingle dust that I went home with no added tan, just so filthy I had to rise off with the hose before I could go in the house.
Day 3…COOKED! All the mess was cleaned up on day 2, so it was just putting up the time I used sunscreen a little too late but more than the second day and still got crispy. So, my theory stands…Shingle dust is an awesome sunscreen.
I wasn’t really worried about the burn because I have an amazing cure. I came across this years ago. It works awesome so I was to share it.
Sunburn Cream:
- 1 Glass Jar
- 1 Spray Bottle
- 1/4 cup Aloe Gel
- 1/4 cup Unscented Oil (Jojoba, Vitamin E, Olive, Coconut, etc.)
- 3 drops Lavendar Essential Oil
- 3/4 cup Water
- 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Mix Aloe, Oil, and Lavendar E.O. until combined. Store in a glass jar. Stir well before each use. (Separation is natural.)
Combine Water and ACV in a spray bottle.
Now that you have everything made, here’s the order of operations for this.
- 1. Take a cool/warm shower to take the heat out of the sunburn.
- 2. Mist the AVC mix over the sunburned areas. Let sit for a minute.
- 3. Apply the Aloe mixture generously to the sunburn.
- Repeat every morning and evening until no longer in pain.
If you want a larger batch the ratio should be 1 part Aloe:1 part Oil: 3 drops Lavendar E.O.
Why I choose these ingredients:
- Cool Shower – clean skin, slow the burn
- AVC & Water – Antibacterial, soothing to the skin
- Aloe Gel – soothing and healing to the skin
- Unscented Oil – Moisturizing. (ex. Jojoba, Vitamin E, Olive, Coconut, etc)
- Lavendar Essential Oil – Reduces inflammation and relaxes
I live in Wisconsin, and we only need this 4-6 months of the year so I will make a batch when spring finally arrives and toss it when snow comes.
I swear by this and have had a family member, who takes medicine that causes sunburn easily, tell me itis the best fix she has ever had. The pain was gone by the next morning.
